Thanks to the hard work of ASVI Edmonton volunteers, we are able to offer funding for products not supplied by other organizations or schools. Volunteering is integral to our organization, and we offer our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported ASVI in this way.

ASVI has recently updated its application process. Please read the Loan Guidelines carefully before you apply. The application form must be completely filled out or it will be returned to you for completion.

Equipment that is specific to vision loss (e.g., Braille notetaker) will always take precedence for approval when funds are limited. However, we do recognize the importance of mainstream technology, which includes built-in accessibility features for many of our students. Effective September 2023, we will consider applications for laptops and tablets (including vision-specific accessories, software, and apps). The assistive technology is on loan to the individual/family, with the understanding that items no longer in use are to be returned in good working order, to be redistributed to others as requests arise.

ASVI has limited funds and cannot adequately meet the needs of all students who require equipment. Families who wish to apply must first explore alternative sources for funding (e.g. Military Police Blind Children’s Fund, STEP program facilitated through CNIB), and in the case of equipment for school use – Alberta Education’s Supports for Students with Visual Impairments (SSVI). If you are unable to access alternative funding sources, you can apply to ASVI.

We are implementing new procedures for reviewing applications to streamline the process and ensure all applicants are equally considered.  There will be 4 application review cycles per year. Please have your completed application submitted to ASVI by the due dates below. Any applications submitted after the due dates will be considered in the next review period.
